Po Wan didn’t start painting nudes until he was around seventy-nine. But once he started, he applied himself diligently to learning all that he could. In this painting we can see the sensitivity he has to the female form. The skin has a glow to it. He uses blue/green and red reflections on the body. It is as if the colour of the cloths in the background create the shadows on the body. It is a very complex use of colour and shadows and highlights. He still applies the Chinese convention of a black outline. His line, though, is not a strong harsh black line but undulates with the form, bringing the body out of the background and emphasizing the curves of the body.
