Still Life

“Painting still-lifes is not as easy as people think.  Strictly speaking it is not sufficient to render the superficial likeness of objects.  Texture is very important.  That is to say, we must be able to show the difference between glass, pottery and porcelain; and also be able to suggest the odour of fish, or the fragrance of flowers to the viewer’s sense through pictorial representation”
